Auckland, New Zealand – Cook Medical’s EchoTip Insight® Portosystemic Pressure Gradient Measurement System has been awarded the Medical Technology Association of New Zealand (MTANZ) Innovation Award for 2022.
EchoTip Insight is a device for directly measuring the pressures in the hepatic and portal veins. “The system is designed to be used in conjunction with an ultrasound endoscope,” said Bruno Gagnon, global product manager at Cook Medical. “It takes the average of three measurements in each vein to calculate the gradient, it is direct and accurate. It offers a new, minimally invasive way for comprehensive liver assessments, that will help physicians to determine the appropriate treatment pathway for patients.”
The MTANZ Innovation Award recognizes medical devices that demonstrate technical and clinical excellence. The awardees also bring a significant contribution to improving patient outcomes that would lead to better quality of life.
Obex Medical, a New Zealand-based medical supplier that partners with Cook, sees how EchoTip Insight fits into that description. As a member of the MTANZ, Obex submitted EchoTip Insight as a contender for this year’s award. They provided a detailed report outlining the clinical benefits of the product comparing to current practices. When EchoTip was selected as one of the finalists, Obex then presented the device with available data at the annual HealthTech Week Conference in Auckland and won the award at the end of the conference.
“Obex continues to be an important business partner to Cook,” said Jean-Marc Creissel, vice president and director of Asia-Pacific at Cook Medical. “I am glad that we have a distribution partner that strongly believes in how our products could impact patients’ lives positively. Their proactive approach in introducing our technologies and products to physicians and patients in the New Zealand market is truly remarkable.”
Besides New Zealand, EchoTip Insight is currently available to physicians in several markets in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia and Hong Kong. It is also available in the United States, Canada, and selected countries in EU.
